The Mallorca holiday home market has been hit hard by the coronavirus crisis. So far this summer season, tourist homes have registered an average occupancy of 27%, a situation that is described as disastrous by the Federation of Holiday Tourism Stays of Mallorca. They ask for a two-year moratorium to be able to rent for periods of more than one month and that they be exempted from certain tourist taxes.

From this federation they point out that in Mallorca there are 14,000 tourist homes that operate with a license and subject to a special rental regime, for which they must pay the eco-tax and reinforced taxes such as the IBI.

Although in July the occupancy reached 60%, it ended up falling to 40%, after the United Kingdom established a mandatory quarantine and later the occupation fell to 27, after the announcement by Germany to discourage traveling to the islands. This body estimates that the season will close between 15% and 30% occupancy.

Given the drop in income, the Balearic Government has been asked to make a regulatory change to approve an exceptional period of 2 years, until 2022, to be able to rent for periods of more than one month.

Also from the federation they ask that the payment of tourist taxes be exempted, such as the ecotax.
