Guindalera (better known as La Guindalera) is a neighborhood in Madrid belonging to the Salamanca district. It is delimited by the Avenida de América, the streets of Francisco Silvela and Alcalá and by the M-30 highway.

In La Guindalera we find a very popular neighborhood with lots of shops and a busy daily activity without getting to the noise of the neighborhoods closest to central Madrid, although, its good communications, make it easy to access it. In fact, it has a privileged location, with almost immediate departure to three of the most important arteries of the city (Alcalá, M-30 and Avenida de América).

In relation to mobility by public transport, it has 4 metro stations: Parque de las Avenidas, Ventas, Diego de León and Avenida América, the latter with its interchanger for long-distance trips, several bus lines: lines 1, 12, 43, 48, C1, N3.

The neighbors recognize that, in recent years, much progress has been made in the infrastructure of the neighborhood. La Guindalera has three sports halls, two senior centers and a center for people with Alzheimer’s.

There is also a school and a public institute, in addition to several concerted educational centers. It has only one nursery school, although for the number of couples with children who are repopulating the neighborhood, neighborhood associations are claiming another.

It also highlights the reform in 2005 of the Plaza de San Cayetano, meeting point of the neighbors of the neighborhood, which helped a lot to reduce the noise, as well as being an entertaining place to take the children.

Therefore, it is a privileged neighborhood, as it is one of the downtown neighborhoods that still has a real market, as before. The traditional Guindalera market, built in the mid-40s, with a very varied and quality offer of fresh products: it has butchers, fishmongers, fruit shops, deli, pollerías, a bakery and a bar.
